  • I'm safely home

I want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers and comments on my behalf. about 10 minutes after I posted yesterday I got a call from the other driver and he he was where the wedding was at and he was leaving and my load wanted to leave also (The predictions were that things were going to get a lot worse) so I got my things together and by the time I got there the first load was just leaving. They had to bring everybody out in a slay because of the drifting snow.

This gives you an idea how the conditions were. this was a load that lived 200 miles north of Fennimore. There was another load from Ky that loaded up right after this group left then it was my turn. They told me that all the visitors stayed at the wedding until we picked them up. (The conditions were to bad to go any where else)There were over 50 that slept there on the floor and where ever they could find a place to sleep. The other thing that was happening was it was turning colder. It was 16 degrees on top of that strong wind. Also the news said some of the interstates were closed in Iowa because of 8 to 16 ft drifts.I was thankful that we were on the eastern part of the state. I drove through snow for about 175 miles then after that all I had to watch out for was the strong wind gusts.

This will give you an idea what my van looks like this morning. That is why they make car washes (LOL) That is enough excitement for now.    Pops

  • Howdy from Snowy Wisconsin

I brought a group into Fennimore Wisconsin on Monday for a wedding on Tuesday. We were supposed to leave last night at 10:00 PM so I slept around 4 hours and woke up at 7:30 PM and looked out the window and it was snowing like crazy. I turned my phone on in case my group would call and they called around 8:15 and asked if it would be best to stay put and I told them since we have a small child along that I did not want to take a chance. I surprised myself and went to sleep around 10:30 and slept till 7:30 this morning. Then he called again this morning and told me that the wind was blowing his buggy all over the road and we decided to stay today and hopefully get on the road in the morning. He said the phone booth he was calling me from was felt like it was about to blow over too. The news said that the wind gusts will be from 40 to 50 mph this afternoon to and there would be no sense to go on the road in those conditions.

I went out long enough to take a few pictures so you can see the snow. This is my van how it looks right now.

I would ask an interest in your prayers in our travels. I don't mind driving in snow but I don't like to drive in ice. We had about 120 miles of icy roads on the way up and several vehicles that flew around me ended up in the big ditches along the interstate. Some people just don't use common sense.          Pops

  • Hello Folks

Today is a special day. Ramona Darlene (Miller) Beachy was born 36 years ago today. The reason she was named Ramona was that was as close as we could get to name her after my dad and her grandfather as they shared the same birthday as my fathers name (for those who may not know) was Roman D Miller Sr. and he was born 102 years ago.

  • Howdy from wet and chilly Lancaster

I was on the road all night last night on my last wedding trip to Lancaster for the year. This is my 4th trip in 5 weeks and next week I go to Wisconsin for a wedding. My group wanted to be in Honey Brook by 6 AM and I had a stop to pick up a couple in Ripley Co In. and when I pulled into the home where the wedding will be it was 5:55 AM. Everyone got off at one place so it only took a few minutes to unload so I headed to Rt 30 just on the edge of Lancaster. I came over here because my first stop Tomorrow night will be in Georgetown and at 10:00 PM and then on over to Honey Brook.

Walter and Mona were coming home from Buffalo Valley as they were there for a week. We met at Cracker Barrel on rt. 30 and had a late lunch together and had a wonderful hour together

  • Just a short update

We were very glad to have Mike and Cheryl and Cole here for several days as they came for a wedding on Saturday for a friend that Cheryl and the girls worked with at our neighbors Restaurant.

I never got the camera out till Sunday afternoon and took several of Cole and thats all. Cheryl don't cooperate very well anyway when I try to take photo's.

Last evening Carlton decided to make some bread on the spur of the moment so Carrie's sister Miriam Stoltzfus helped him with the ingredients and so I just had to take this picture. We have one of those bread machines and it works surprisingly good. The bread turned out quite well.    Until next time     Pops
